Why is this program needed?

Learning builds on learning: childen gain new knowledge only by building on what they already know. It is essential to begin building solid foundations of knowledge in the early grades when children are most receptive because, for many children academic deficiencies from the first six grades can permanently impair the success of later learning. Poor performance of students in the middle and high school can be retraced to shortcomings inherited from elementary schools who have not imparted to children the knowledge and skills they need for further learning.

Many students in our inner city schools are not functioning at their grade levels. Reading comprehension levels are low and many schools are not spending the time needed to ensure students acquire the skills needed to succeed. Schools are teaching toward state tests—not student needs. Consequently, R.E.A.C.H. is needed because we are geared toward training the “whole student” to function outside of the classroom, as well as inside.

What are the benefits?

After completing a R.E.A.C.H. Enrichment Program, students will experience learning at a pace that they can comprehend and therefore excel. R.E.A.C.H.will focus on many of the trouble areas, such as reading comprehension, math and writing.  

Also, many students need extra help in order to stay on track. Often during summer vacation, students forget rules and skills learned during the school year, especially in the area of Math. R.E.A.C.H. will ensure that students continue to build on what they’ve learned. Comprehension, writing, math, and teaching students to value education and their creative abilities will be our main focus. The benefits are that students will continue learning when school is out, and thusly will be prepared for the upcoming school year.

What is the program schedule?

R.E.A.C.H. Summer Enrichment Program runs Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m until 12:00 p.m.  

R.E.A.C.H. Saturday Enrichment Program will begin the 2^nd Saturday in September from 9:00 a.m until 12:00 noon, and continue each Saturday throughout the academic school year.  

R.E.A.C.H. AfterSchool Enrichment Program will begin the Monday following the first week of school in September from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
